I’ve had a very dramatic week. Seriously. Ups and downs all over the place. If you follow my twitter, you know what’s been going on. If you don’t, don’t worry. I’ll tell you all about it.
* First of all, this was my first week at my new job! I started teaching my pre-k class on Monday. There are 18 four and almost four year olds in the class. So far, so good! I’ve enjoyed getting know the kids and their families this week. I’m excited about the school year! The week went smoothly. I even managed to stay on my diet despite the awesome food that was cooked in the kitchen!
* I lost 3 lbs!!
* I started and finished New Super Mario Bros on my DS ( I get to cross off 1/3 video games for number 67 on my list! “67. Complete 3 video games”)
*I can skate again!!! I saw the orthopedist Wednesday. He agreed with the podiatrist that my ankle is screwed up, but says I don’t need surgery any time soon. Woohoo! I was given the okay to skate , a temporary brace, and an extremely painful steroid shot! I see the doc again Wednesday to test out braces and learn to wrap my ankle. I’ll have to do some physical therapy and wear a brace ALL the time to prevent further injury. I’m ok with that! Since the day I received that wonderful news, I’ve been skating every day. I skated with the team on Thursday, with a friend at the rink on Friday, 6 miles outdoors with the boyfriend today, and we’re going skating again tomorrow afternoon. I missed skating…if you couldn’t tell. :)

Me at the end of a cool tunnel we skated through on our route!
*also, this!

Yup. broke my iPhone. I’m not too bummed about it. I’ve been wanting an iPhone 4 since they were released. I will have to wait a couple of weeks before I can get one, but I think that’s what I’ll do. :)
I heard Ceelo’s new song, “Fuck You” on Friday and have listened to it a million times since. It makes me laugh and it’s really catchy. If you like soulful music, give it a listen. It’s great.
I love looking at other people’s bookshelves and can spend a lot of time wandering through the many shelves of books in libraries. It’s no surprise that one of my new favorite Tumblrs is “Bookshelves”. A collection of varios bookshelves of all kinds. Libraries, personal collection, bookstores…I love it! Here are a few of my favorites
If you can find beauty in bookshelves, check out more at Bookshelves.tumblr.com. And if we aren’t tumblr friends, leave your link and I’ll follow you!
Thank, heavens! Retail was killing me and not giving me enough hours. I will be teaching pre school again. I’m excited to work with kids and to do something I love to do. I’ll be teaching a pre-k 4 class. 4 year olds are lots of fun to work with! They only go to class half a day, but lucky for me the school also has a daycare. I’ll be working there in the afternoons and getting a steady amount of hours every week. I start next week!
Female gamers get a lot of shit in game. It’s not uncommon to hear “GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN!” or “TITS or GTFO (get the fuck out)” when you simply say something over mic while playing Call of Duty. Well, the tables have been turned in this video. Here’s a video of some Xbox girls* getting revenge.
*They’re definitely not real gamers. Look how some of them are holding the controllers. Funny video, anyhow. (This video is NSFW!!!!!)
Unfortunately, my podiatrist appointment went exactly as I thought it would. He wants me to stay off my skates for awhile and I’m going to have to get surgery to fix my ankle. I was right. It didn’t heal properly. I’m a bit depressed about not being able to skate, but I know it’s for the best. Don’t want to be hobblin’ around permanently in 10 years. Not sure when I’m going to get the surgery. An orthopedist will call me either today or early next week to talk particulars. Until then I am researching insurance plans. I am one of those 35 million uninsured Americans. It sucks! I don’t even know how to look for a plan. Why didn’t I have a class on this kinda crap in college? Calling my mom tonight for help and of course, comparing and contrasting on my little notepad.
In better news, Peanut’s doing better! I guess it was a one day illness type of thing. I’m glad. I was really worried. Still going strong on my diet. The first week is always the hardest for me. but I’ve been good and avoiding my cravings for things that don’t fit in my plan. The bf and I went to a midnight showing of Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I’ve been waiting excitedly for that movie to come out since the day I saw the trailer. Since then, I’ve read all the books and fell in love with them. The movie was great. It followed the comic well. Of course it omitted some things and added others as all book to movie adaptations do. I loved it. And not just because of my crush on goofy, awkward, Michael Cera. It was hilarious! I laughed the entire length of the movie just as I did with the books. Go see it!

The soundtrack is equally awesome. With tracks from Metric, Beck, Broken Social Scene, and The Black Lips!
I’m scared because
a) Peanut’s sick. He’s been lethargic, hasn’t eaten anything, and has diarrhea :( If he’s still this way tomorrow, he’s going to the vet. I hope everything’s ok. My heart is aching just watching him like this.
b) I am going to the podiatrist tomorrow. Even though it’s been 2.5 years since I broke my ankle and fibula, it’s still giving me problems! My ankle swells after standing on it for awhile and it hurts when moved in certain positions. I don’t think it ever healed properly. I’m worried that he will tell me to stop skating or more importantly, that I need surgery. I’m probably just overreacting. We’ll see tomorrow.
*crosses fingers*
Today is day 2 of being back on my low cal diet. Back on it? Yea, I totally abandoned it in June. There were so m any BBQ’s and friends coming in town. I had no chance of staying on it. Well, maybe if I had self control, but I don’t! And I love food! No worries, I didn’t gain all of the 16 lbs I lost. I did gain 3, but I seriously think that’s muscle mass from derby. Or that’s what I keep telling myself. :) It’s hard being back on it because I’ve been allowing myself to eat what I want. *sigh* I can do it, I can do it!
Last night we had an outdoor roller derby practice. I hate skating on concrete so I was dreading it, but it wasn’t that bad. My new outdoor wheels have been a dream! If you’re looking for some good outdoors that are highly absorbent, try out Sure Grip aerobics.
I ordered some green ones from from RollerGirlSkates and I couldn’t be happier with them. Here they are in action in a parade my team was in on Monday.
Now that I’m more comfortable skating outdoors, I plan on doing it on off-practice days to help with my endurance and as a workout.
Today, I’m going thriftin! Haven’t been in awhile. Hoping they have some good stuff, specifically a 60/70s era dress that ties on the shoulders. Here’s to hopin! ;)
The latest Arcade Fire album, Suburbs, was released last week and I’ve been listening to it non stop. i really like it! It’s not as good as their album Funeral, but definitely better than Neon Bible. I don’t have a favorite song yet, because it’s to early to say! So, here’s Suburbs, the title track from the album.
I twisted my hair (with extensions). I’ve braided it million times before, but this was my first time doing two strand twists. It’s a lot easier than the braids and I love it! Only took about 8 hours.
