Hump day!

Woah! Wednesday already. This week has flown by so fast. Hope it continues because I am exhausted and want to sleep all weekend…even though I probably won’t.

I saw Inglorious Basterds last night. I hadn’t even heard of it before this week, then all of a sudden everyone was yapping about it and raving about how great it is. I saw it and wasn’t disappointed! I liked it a lot. I thought the dialogue dragged on at parts, but it’s still a good movie with a great story line. (You know how I love films surrounding WWII) I definitely recommend seeing it. Brad Pitt and the actor that played Colonel Landa were amazing as their characters. So, yea…go see it!

It’s finally starting to cool down here. This morning it was even chilly enough to wear a jacket when Peanut and I went for a walk. Fall is my favorite season so I’m hoping the weather sticks like this and kick starts the season. But knowing our screwy weather, this could just be a tease and next week we’ll go back to 98 degrees. Here’s hoping that’s not the case. *crosses fingers* I start classes on Monday. I switched them to online classes instead of actual classes because the times conflicted with my work schedule. Let’s hope I can not be distracted by WoW, Twitter, and whatever else.

Love that song, the video, and Mick’s suit.

I had a pleasant weekend. “The hunter” wanted to come down to visit again, but I said no. As much as I did enjoy spending time with him and as much as I know I’ll be wanting to see him while he’s abroad, I wanted even more to have the weekend to myself to just chill. What can I say? I like my free time. After a week of working and the previous weekend full of entertaining/hanging with him, I just wanted to chill out-do some cleaning, run some errands, get my hair done, mail things off, go to the bank, napping during the day, shopping! ..things I can’t do during the week because of work. I did all of the above and definitely enjoyed the weekend and I feel refreshed for work this week. ^_^ So, mission accomplished. And even though I miss him, I don’t regret not seeing him this weekend.

I bought an iPhone! I’ve wanted one for ages, but couldn’t afford to get one AND a new contract until now. (Yay employment!) Im really digging it. I do however need more applications. I have some twitter apps, wordpress, facebook, some games, even a WoW app but i want more! So, If you’re an Iphone user or just know of any cool apps, let me know!!!!

I started my quest to find a car this weekend! It’s so stressful. I’m torn between buying a used car in cash or a nicer used car from a dealership and having a payment plan. The latter doesn’t attract me at all. Not really to keen on having a bill, but Im sure the car would be more reliable. Stressful! I did find a really cute used car I could buy in cash. It’s a PURPLE saturn wagon. hahaha!

A mom car! I drove it around and I like it…especially the color, but my mom says I need to be patient and look at other cars and blah blah. But I am not a patient girl, I just want to get that one and be done. This whole process is stressing me out and I want it to be over and done!

Testing!

Oh hai! I’m posting from my shiny new iPhone!

warcraft-love?

Sheesh I really need to work on my blogging. Sometimes I get in a rythym of doing it every couple of days and sometimes even every day then there’s times like…now. Where I’ve gone weeks without a peep. Oh well, most of you that read my blog follow me on twitter and those that don’t should. :P

So, my first week of work was alright. I’m not going to say very good or awesome, because it simply wasn’t. I like my co-workers and I love teaching and being around kids, but this age is just not for me. I’m used to kids that are a little less dependent on you for EVERYTHING! Thank goodness they can walk, but I have to help them eat, they can’t talk so I have to decipher baby code to even know what they want, they still wear diapers, they can barely pay attention for 5 minutes so a game or even flash cards is difficult. *sigh* I’m not a big fan of this age, but I am learning a lot. The other teacher’s taught me some baby sign language. Which is very useful. The kids can’t talk, but with the sign language, we can communicate with them. They learn fast and they know the signs for please, more, and drink. Which is a lot nicer than hearing them scream or make some weird noise. *sigh* They are much too young for my liking, but it’s a job and it’s not terrible, just not my preference.

Is World of Warcraft the new match.com? I always hear stories of people meeting in WoW. My guild even has a married couple who initially met in the game! and I know a handful of people that date people they’ve met from the game. I always made fun of those people and joked about it, but umm. well, I kind of met a guy from WoW. I’ve been talking to let’s call him …”the hunter” because that’s the class he plays in the game. Anywho, the hunter and I’ve been talking for years now. We’ve played the game together for years, email like crazy when he’s deployed and even talk off game. If you play the game you know how easy it is to make friendships. You play with these people for hours every day or even just a few times a week, but it’s still more often than not. We’ve played together for ,as I said before, years! I knew him, he knew me, but we had never met each other…until this weekend. He always talked about coming to visit and I didn’t really believe him. He definitely called my bluff and was at my house on Friday night! I thought it would be weird, but it wasn’t. I was myself the whole time we talked via WoW and everything and so was he. So, I was just hanging out with the hunter I’ve known all the while. Meeting him was nerve wrecking! I was so effin nervous about it. I took a hint from Devynn and took a few shots before we were actually going to meet up. It helped…maybe a little too much? >.< Anywho, after an hour of hi’s and hugs and nervous talking we finally loosened up. Sort of watched movie in bed…I mean…it was on but we were kind of just hanging out. It was nice. We spent the entire weekend chilling (we even spent an afternoon hanging out with my mom), seeing the city, and getting to know each other. It was lovely. Am I going to see this guy again? Yup. I like him, a lot! Which isn’t surprising I guess. I kind of liked him before, but this just intensified it. So, yea….we’re dating. I’m dating the hunter. Dating as much as you can date someone who lives a 12 hour drive away. Which isn’t really a problem for me, Pinkie Larue the princess of long distance complicated relationship thingies. Besides if I’m going to be in a relationship, I prefer this at the moment. I tend to become more dependent to my partner than I’d like to be and I’m still trying to be more adult like and independent. so this works just fine :) I just realized I didn’t take any pictures on the weekend. Hmph. When he gets back from his deployment (he’s going to Germany for a just a month and a half) we’re going to see each other again and I’ll make sure to get some then. I am hoping this works out for the best and doesn’t have some shady/crazy ending, but you never know! And guess what? I’m fine with that too!

oh and another quick side story. So, when we hung out with my mom we accompanied her to the casino for gambling and dinner. the casino buffets are awesome ^_^ . She loves going down to Tunica, Mississippi, a casino resort town about 30 minutes away, so we decided to go with her. The hunter and I weren’t going to gamble much so we were playing with a little money. After losing some money on a random machine next to my mom, we decided to change machines. We changed to a rinky dink nickel machine. with unicorns on it. Ha! Well, we put a 20 dollar bill in the plan was to take turns making bets. The hunter was like “You need to bet big” and pressed max bet which was the whole $20(he didn’t know that at the time) and I was so pissed off at him that I looked at him and kinds of yelled “That was the whole freaking twenty. UGHH! Why’d you do that!” and when we turned back to the screen we saw blinking bright lights that said we had won $4100 dollars. WHAT?! FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS! We were in disbelief at first, just staring at the screen making sure we had actually won. When we finally closed our mouths, we called an attendant and the attendant came and paid us the money! Awesome, right!? So, I’ve been looking at used cars ( I need a car!) and thinking about buying my ticket to Australia now instead of in September! i think he may be my lucky charm.

zombie, zombie, zombie-e-e-e

I had my first day at work today. Well, sorta. Today was inservice day. The other teachers and I decorated the rooms, made bulletin boards, and had team meetings with the director. School starts on Monday and I’ll have a class of 18 kids. Everyone keeps asking me if I’m nervous, and I’m not! It’s something I’m really comfortable doing, so I’m perfectly fine with it.

I’m on a mission to fight my insomnia. If you follow me on twitter, you know that I’ve been having trouble sleeping for a while now. You probably notice me awake at weird hours, going to bed when you’re waking up for work, and then only sleeping for 3 hours. It’s crazy and I have no idea what the cause is. It’s not caffeine, stress or, loud neighbors. Its just some random phase I guess. I’ve always been able to function on little sleep, but not for such a long period of time. I took a couple of Tylenol Sleepy Time yesterday and it did what it was supposed to do. It put me to sleep, but I was wide awake a few hours later. Maybe I’ll pop 3 next time? Maybe my sleep schedule will fall into a normal rhythm now that I’m empolyed? One can only hope…

plants-vs-zombies-20090402114225619_640w

A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine suggested that I download Plants Vs Zombies from Popcap games. I was a little hesitant at first. A game about plants fighting zombies?! Why on earth would I be interested in that? But I try to give everything a chance (besides music…), so I downloaded it. I didn’t get around to playing it until this week, and oh am I glad that I did! Plants vs. Zombies is awesome and yes, very addicting. I spent so many hours playing within the last 2 days. It’s a tower defense game where you try to keep the zombies out of your house by planting plants with different offensive and defensive abilities in your yard. Some of the plants shoot peas, some throw watermelons, and some are used for defense, like the WALL-nut. (which I’m adding a picture of because he and his friend “tall-nut” have the most hilarious facial expressions) 3293150-3-plants-vs-zombies-wall-nut-and-tall-nut As the levels progress, not only do more zombies attempt to get in your house by way of your yard AND your roof, but they get more kick ass abilities to aid them in destroying your plants. You’ll be trying to destroy zombies on dolphins, Michael Jackson “thriller” inspired zombies, pole vaulting zombies and the ones that give me the most trouble, Gargantuan zombies with a baby on his back that he throws into the yard to devour the plants. It’s 2 in one! Not fair, not fair! No worries though. I am a supreme zombie killer and I definitely beat the game yesterday. I was rewarded with a trophy, some mini games (!!!), and the best reward ever-a music video featuring the plants and zombies. Check it out! I should warn you, the song is so catchy.

I know a lot of you aren’t “gamers”, but that’s what is so cool about this game. It appeals to anyone. My mom even played it (she didn’t get very far)! So, go to www.popcap.com and download the free (for 60 minutes) demo-which is available for mac too!

You know those missed connections in the classifieds or craigslist? I always find myself browsing through them giggling at the hilarious ones, “awww-ing” at the cute/hopeful ones, and feeling sorry for the odd weirdo desperate ones. Well, Sophie Blackall came up with the brilliant idea of illustrating missed connections and putting them up on a blog for our viewing pleasure. I liked them all, but this was my favorite out of the bunch.

Remember? Uptown A train. Sunday at around 9pm. I was the black dude reading Bukowski’s Post Office. You were reading the Arts and Leisure section. You passed wind rather loudly and started chuckling. I’d like to see you again. The flatulence wasn’t a turn-o

lawl. You can find the rest of them on the Missed Connections NY blog.

A couple of months ago I downloaded a bundle of music that contains one song from every band that played at SXSW this year. I never sat down and listened to it all. Afterall, it is 6 GBs of music! Sometimes, I get a bit of my music collection and want to hear something new so I go to the SXSW playlist and put it on shuffle. I’ve found a couple of bands I like, but mostly a lot of stuff I didn’t. Today I came across a really cute song by a band called Motel Motel. They are one of those indie Americana bands that I’ve been recently falling in love with. The song that attracted me was “Coffee”. I listened to it three times before stalking them on the interwebs and listening to more of their music.

Here’s ‘Coffee’! What do you think?

This week I was lucky enough to have Devynn , my old flat mate from Amsterdam , come visit! She and her friend Emily were taking road trip from Michigan to Texas and guess who’s right smack dab in the middle? ME! So they stopped to visit for 2 days. It was nice seeing Devynn again and meeting her bff Detroit Emily who I’ve ALWAYS heard about in stories, but never had the chance to meet. Didn’t get to show them around, but they got to see/experience Memphis Bar-B-Que and our famous Beale St, which they definitely left an impression on. And I hope it made an impression on them. ^_^

Oh and guess what else happened this week? I got a job at the pre-school! I interviewed and applied for the pre-k teacher position, but was offered the 2-year old class. Not really my preferred age group, but hey! Unemployed, broke, girls that are saving for moving out and holidays and are in no position to be choosey. I start as soon as I get my fingerprints and background checks finished, which will probably be this week sometime. I’m excited about having something to fill my days and wallet with! I’m a little bit worried about how I will handle the stress of school (starts at the end of the month!) and an 8-5 every week day job…

Ah well. I’ll tackle that when it comes up.
