best of 2009 (1)

There’s a blog challenge that a lot of 20 something bloggers are participating in. It’s “The Best of 2009 Challenge“. Basically it’s reflecting on your 2009, with a writing prompt for each day. There’s no way, I am going to post every day. I’ve tried and failed (remember NaBloPoMo?). However, I will write on a few prompts each week!

What was your best trip in 2009?- Florence, Italy! It was my first trip of the year! I actually spent my New Year’s Eve here. I was completely alone for this trip, but had a blast. I enjoyed exploring the city, visiting museums, getting lost, seeing beaaaautiful sites, running from Italian men, and eating lots of pizza! I stayed in a really cool hostel, met some fun people, and also met the most beautiful man I’ve ever laid eyes on in my entire life-Francesco.

Restaurant moment. Share the best restaurant experience you had this year. Cheese Fries at Huey’s! The day I moved back to the states, I had the food I missed the most while I was away-Huey’s Cheese Fries. mmmmmmmm!

What book – fiction or non – touched you? Where were you when you read it? Have you bought and given away multiple copies? The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. I borrowed it from my boss and read it in two nights. I loved it and even though I haven’t given away copies, I definitely recommend it to everyone.

Night out. Did you have a night out with friends or a loved one that rocked your world? Who was there? What was the highlight of the night? I had tons of fun nights this year. I can’t choose a favorite!

Blog find of the year. That gem of a blog you can’t believe you didn’t know about until this year. Color Me Katie! I love this blog. It’s full of really cool art and photographs. I never skip a post!

NaBloPoMo

For the last couple of years, my friends both online and IRL, have participated in NaNoWriMo-National Novel Writing Month. It’s an event where the goal is too write a novel during the month of November. I’ve attempted it about 3 times, but I always stopped writing around the second week. I thought about doing it again this year, but I KNEW I wasn’t going to complete it so I didn’t even attempt. Instead I found something I will participate in! NaBloPoMo! National Blog Posting Month! I know, I know, I’m a day late. I’ll add in an extra post somewhere. The goal of this little deal is to just post a blog post every day. I know I’ve been a little sporadic with my blog posts, so I’m hopinh this will help me blog more regularly…or I’ll fail at this too. :/ Anyway, I’m going to try to post daily even if it just a picture from my iphone!

linky love

OH HAI!
remember how I said I was going to go drop my resume off at some retails hops? yea, I never did it, BUT I did go to an interview for a pre-k teacher position and guess what! I got called back for a second interview. Hopefully it’s the one where they say “YOU ARE AWESOME! TAKE THIS JOB!” It’s tomorrow, so we shall see. I also got a heads up for another position at a non profit. I’ll get more information about that tomorrow.

Unemployment allows me so much free time. I know I complain about it sometime, but gosh darn it I’m going to miss it. This week I’ve been a crafty Pinkie! I’m working on a scarf for my friend in Australia. Hopefully I’ll finish it today or tomorrow. I need to send it soon because her winter is almost over! (oh yea…surprise! You’re getting a scarf in the mail soon! I know you’re going to read this. haha) I’ve also been working on a set of pillowcases for a friend. I’ll post pictures of everything when they’re done. Well, not the scarf until the receiver receives it.

Also, been playing a lot of World of Warcraft. I’ve been focusing more on my alts (alternate characters) than my main. My mage is now a level 53! and I finally moved my warlock back to the server (I transferred it about a half a year ago) and started officially leveling her yesterday. She’s 71…for now! ^_^

Guys, promise me you won’t allow me to have more than 3 level 80s. I never thought I would even come close to having 3! o.O eeek!

these magic beans are useless

My 3 week stint as a “merchkin” (Wicked merch girl) ended on Sunday. I miss it already. It was a really easy job with great perks and pay. As the weeks went on, I did get annoyed with the songs and thought I’d never want to hear them again. BUT here I am only days later, singing and humming the songs. Particularly this one

I wish there was footage of the actors that played in my tour! They were more comedic and I actually prefer them to the NYC cast. Maybe I’m biased…

The Complete Persepolis

I got two new graphic novels yesterday! Stuck in the Middle, a collection of seventeen comics from an unpleasant age, and the one I’m really excited about reading, Persepolis! Persepolis is an autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi depicting her childhood in Iran during and after the revolution. It’s also been made into a movie of the same name and has won a few awards. I plan on watching it as soon as I finish reading it. And I’ll get to that as soon as I finish reading Twilight. I had to pause my Twilight reading to re-read Harry Potter book 6. Now that that’s over I can continue to fall for Edward Cullen.

5 days is a long time!

Since i quit my job, my life has been pretty uneventful. I wish I had even World of Warcraft news to report, but I don’t. Haven’t been playing for the last couple of days. I recently told a friend I haven’t logged in since THURSDAY which I thought was a huge deal. His response? “ZOMG SO LONG!” with such sarcasm. It sure feels like it even though It’s only been 5 days.

Instead I’ve been reading. I borrowed Jeremy’s collection of The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. So far, so good. It’s a graphic novel about Morpheus, Lord of Dreams, taking revenge on the people who kept him captive for 70 years and the rebuilding of his kingdom which has fallen into despair. I USED to read it at night before bed, not anymore! I scared myself after reading and couldn’t sleep one night. I think this is also the reason why I had the epic nightmare 2 nights ago. I haven’t had nightmares in ages and then all of a sudden I get an epic nightmare which one day I’ll turn into a short story. I mean…it was EPIC! I couldn’t even go back to sleep afterwards.

Also, been hanging out with real people instead of just my in game peeps, watching lot of movies/tv. I recently watched

*Stardust-omg such a cute, sweet, movie!
*Coraline-great animation and the story line was good too
*Vicky Christina Barcelona-Lovely views of Barcelona and Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson make out…need I say more!?
*Arrested Development-I’m the last person in the universe to watch this series, I know. It’s so funny! When I first started watching it I thought it was bland and didn’t really like it very much, but now I think it’s hilarious. I crack up laughing all the time and even hot my mom hooked!
*Nurse Jackie-it just premiered last week on Showtime. I watched it, liked it and will probably watch it again

And now by the request of my sister after finding out that I didn’t know who Speidi is (it’s Spencer and Heidi by the way) I am watching The Hills season 1 >.<

I've also been jogging. having a dog I am forced to go to the park anyway, so why not jog/run? There's a HUGE track at the park I go to, so for a few weeks now I've been jogging. I'm not a runner by any means(I used to be! ran cross country and track from junior high through high school!) though I do love to run! I see my endurance getting better and I can actually see a little weight loss. woot woot. OH! And shopping! How does a broke girl manage to shop? I thrift!

vintagedressies

I’m a fan on vintage dresses so, even when I’m not broke I shop at thrift stores. I bought 4 dresses in the last 2 weeks. My favorites are this red one and the blue/white one. I’ve worn the blue/white one with white sandals. The red is my absolute fave, but I won’t wear it until it gets cooler. It’s polyester. Bwahaha. >.<

I’ve applied for a thousand and one jobs and have yet to hear from any of them to interview me. Not stressing…yet. and still looking. Before I moved back to the states I said I would never work in childcare again. I decided to forget about that and apply to some preschools for the summer. So, today I am taking my resume to some places in Bartlett and Cordova.

Have a lovely day!

humidity

My first week as an advertising sales rep was alright. I didn’t trip and fall in my heels! score! I wasn’t actually a sales rep yet as I was in training all week. So, far I’ve learned a lot. How to sell effectively, Do’s and Don’t of selling, the demographic our publication targets, and tons more information about our publication. Seating is everything when you have a week of training. I picked the worst seat ever! We’re on the 25th floor of a building and it has a great view, but of course I picked the seat facing away from it and closest to my boss. I had to sit there ALL WEEK. Ok, it was a short week because Memorial day was Monday aaaaaaaand I wasn’t feeling well on Friday so I called in and went to the doctor.

Tomorrow I start selling! Well, I probably won’t go any sales calls, but I will probably arrange some. I’m going to dedicate the day to calling the prospects (I prospected about 42 businesses that I think would benefit from advertising with us) and setting up appointments.

It is so hot in Memphis. I woke up on Saturday morning to take Peanut out for a walk, put my hand on the doorknob of the storm door and yelled! The doorknob was was so hot. Outside was even hotter. It was only 85 degrees (29 degrees euro peeps!), but it’s so humid here that it felt like I was going to die. I once read on a blog that “Memphis has the highest humidity rate in the world, perhaps the universe. Rain forests are less humid than Memphis.” I dunno about that, but it is flippin hot. Tomorrow is supposed to get up to 95. HALP! : /

It’s not even summer yet!

stuffies

*Check out this super cool collaborative music/spoken word project.

*Radiohead is working on a new album. Even though it probably won’t come out for YEARS, I’m still excited!
